Respectful carer

71, Retired teacher

I am only looking for sits between mid October 2024 and mid February 2025, preferably but not exclusively in North and South Tyneside, Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. I will be travelling by car, so rural/isolated properties are not a problem.

I am a quiet, caring and responsible person, a widow and mother to three grown-up children. I'm a retired teacher (Art and English) so have always had a CRB check for the time I've worked in England. I now practice and exhibit textile art. Since 2016, I've successfully completed many house/pet sits in the UK and Italy, caring for dogs, cats, rabbits, poultry and goats. Most of the sits I've undertaken have been through a different website, and I have 18 reviews on that site, which I'm happy to forward to you.

I love the countryside and am experienced in looking after a variety of animals. I'm particularly fond of cats, goats, rabbits, poultry and pigs and I can manage small numbers of sheep. I don't have any experience with, and therefore don't feel confident with horses, reptiles or caged birds. I'm fine with giving medication, including injections, and with milking goats and sheep.

I have spent most of my life in Northumberland and in Umbria, Italy, where I currently reside. I'm a keen gardener and garden designer. I have half an acre of land in Italy, with nut, fruit and olive trees, vines and vegetable garden, that I maintain on my own. I like walking, reading, visiting art galleries and museums. I'm a non-smoker.

Sue is a lovely lady and an amazing house sitter! We were stranded in Spain owing to Covid 19 and she very kindly extended her stay at our house to help us out, staying over two months. Communication both before and during the sit was excellent and Sue sent us photographs of the pets and the garden while we were away which was much appreciated. We came home to a sparkling clean house, a well-tended garden and animals (cats and chickens) happy and obviously very well cared for. This was ... MORE

KAREN (Morpeth England, Feb 2020 - 2 months)
I can't recommend Sue highly enough. She was always quick to respond to messages, took excellent care of our cats and we came back to a cleaner house than we left! She popped over the day before the sit and we had complete piece of mind while we were away. She was even kind enough to leave some chicken casserole in the fridge for us!

LOUISE (London England, Nov 2022 - 2 weeks 3 days)
Thank you Louise! Your lovely home was immaculate when I arrived so I could hardly leave it otherwise!
No rating We were really happy to have Susan look after our house and cat balthazar. She was very communicative and very flexible to fit around our holiday dates. She took great care of balthazar and the house and even did some gardening. Thanks Sue!!
STEFANIE (London England, Apr 2018 - 1 week 2 days)
No rating I was pleased that Susan was able to stay for 3 months from early September to early Dec 2017 (instead of having to have 2 consecutive sitters). Susan looked after the house and small garden with great care and attention, and it was very clean and tidy on my return. When there were strong winds/gales, Susan took care to move the pot plants to a more sheltered spot, ensuring nothing was damaged. I'm very grateful for her care while I was away- feeling confident that my home was in good ... MORE
ROZ (Huddersfield England, Sep 2017 - 6 weeks + a further 6 weeks)
No rating We have just had Susan come and stay at our house and look after our dog for a month. The whole arrangement could not have worked out better. She was easy to communicate with prior and during the stay. Our young dog was very happy and healthy on our return. And our house was very clean and left exactly as we left it on our return. Little things like clean sheets left on the bed and a short log of our dogs activities were very welcoming.
NATASHA (Longniddry Scotland, Dec 2016 - 4 weeks)
No rating When i met Susan, i immediately found her to be warm and trustworthy. While i was away on my trip - i contacted susan a few times to ask how the cats were and she responded immediately. When i got home, the cats were relaxed and happy - clearly had been looked after well. And my flat was immaculate, susan even changed the bed sheets! I would recommend susan to anyone else looking for a responsible and trustworthy house and pet sitter.
