Two responsible and dependable friends

33, Unemployed

33, Unemployed

Kera and I have been housesitting and travelling for the past seven and a half years throughout Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Ireland. We have been friends for 22 years and spent 3 months backpacking Europe together in 2012 before starting our big travels in 2016. We like house-sitting because it gives us the opportunity to truly experience living in different countries. Over the past seven years, we have done more than 90 wonderful house/farm-sits and have cared for and grown very attached to some wonderful animals. We have had the opportunity to look after dogs, cats, fish, small birds, parrots, chickens, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, peafowl, rabbits, hedgehogs, pigs, sheep, goats, donkeys, ponies, horses, cows, a water buffalo, alpacas, deer, terrapins, stick insects, and even camels! We also looked after a privately owned wildlife rehabilitation sanctuary in Australia where we cared for injured and orphaned animals including two eastern grey kangaroo joeys, a swamp wallaby joey, and a wombat joey in addition to several birds. While on our travels we have also had the opportunity to volunteer with various animals. In 2019, we volunteered for 5 weeks at Devil's at Cradle in Tasmania. It was an amazing experience and we loved seeing wombats, pademelons, quolls and our beloved Tasmanian Devils everyday! We also volunteered with Orana Wildlife Park in Christchurch for 7 months and did a short internship with the National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra. We helped a lady who rescues hedgehogs by feeding them, bathing them, treating wounds, and cleaning cages whenever we had free time. In Scotland, we volunteered at Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue. Between the two of us, you can rest assured that your beloved fur babies will be well taken care of and your homes will be treated with the utmost respect. We would be very excited to have some four legged friends to explore the outdoors with and would treat your home as we would our own. We understand that we are younger than many people on the website but we hope this does not deter you from considering us.

Here is a bit more about us...

Holly:

I was born in England but moved to Canada with my parents in 1999. In 2018, I worked as a supervisor for Animates in Auckland for 8 months. I learned heaps about animals and really expanded my fish knowledge. In Winnipeg, I worked full time for a financial institution as a supervisor and part time for a shoe store as a stock person. I graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in psychology. I volunteered with youth from low income families who were at risk of getting involved with gangs or drugs from 2010 to 2013. I also volunteered on a crisis and suicide line for a year in 2014. In the future, I would like to have a career as a zookeeper. I have grown up with dogs but love all animals. My family currently has a 14 year old Labrador/Rottweiler cross named Chance who we rescued at age 3. Our dogs have always been larger breeds but I have experience with all sizes of dogs and love all breeds. Aside from travelling, my main hobbies include hiking, hot yoga, and reading. Friends and family would describe me as independent, caring, responsible, hard-working and reliable.

Kera:

I graduated from University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in International Development Studies. I completed a three month practicum for my degree in Tanzania, spent a month volunteering in British Columbia doing Orca whale conservation work, and worked full-time for the Winnipeg Police Service doing administrative and security work. I was always very excited when the Canine unit came to visit! While working for the Police, I also worked as a part-time volunteer coordinator at the non-profit organization, Manitoba Harvest (the City's food distribution and training Centre). In the past, I have volunteered as a dog walker and also at our local Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, where most notably I got to help care for an orphaned beaver and took part in releasing four young raccoons back into the wild. I grew up with a cat named Goofy and a few hamsters, and also had some experience with horses and cows. My sister owns a horse and during visits home (in 2018 and 2022), I took the opportunity to get some riding in, which was great! I absolutely love animals and would be excited to look after pretty much anything! Similarly to Holly, my main hobbies are hiking, kinstretch, reading, and of course, travelling!

In 2018, I spent a few months working as an animal care co-ordinator at Central Bark (Doggy Daycare, Pet Hotel, and Grooming facility) in Auckland. I was responsible for monitoring groups of up to 50 small/medium dogs and up to 32 large breed dogs, cleaning up after the dogs and cats, bathing and drying dogs, walking dogs, preparing meals and administering any medications for the overnight guests. I was also interning as a marine researcher with Auckland Whale and Dolphin Safari on the weekends, which was fantastic! More recently, I had the chance to work (as a server/cleaner) up North in Manitoba at a fly-in lodge for Churchill Wild, which operates walking safaris with Polar Bears. I had the chance to tag along on some of the excursions with guest and it was absolutely incredible! After that, I took on a position working at Wooftopia (Dog Training and Recreation Centre) as a Doggy Daycamp attendant. It's was phenomenal working with dogs again and I hope some similar opportunities present themselves in the future!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch! We would be more than happy to speak to you and to provide references.

Thanks for taking a look at our profile! Hope to hear from you :)

ROISIN (Belfast , Jul 2023 - 1 week 1 day)
Wow! Was I lucky to have Holly & Kera come and Housesit for me and look after Iggy my 10 year old terrier and Wilf my 2 year old anxious rescue dog. Holly & Jera came 3 days before I was due to leave to get to know Wilf and let him get familiar with them which was such a great way to settle him down. He was so comfortable with them that they actually had him out for walkies which I did not expect as he will not normally go out with anyone! I can't recommend Holly & Kera enough they are natural ... MORE

NOREEN (Southsea England, May 2022 - 7 days)
We were very lucky to have Holly and Kera look after our house and dogs. They took the dogs out on plenty of adventures and kept in touch while we were away, sending us updates and photographs. We came home to a clean and tidy house, two happy pooches and a home cooked meal. We would thoroughly recommend them and hope to have them back next year.

What a lovely team these two are. They recommended staying with us in the house for one night and it worked fantastic. The pets were able to relax before we left, and so did us. The communication was great, they were respectful and kind. They left the house clean and tidy. We would have them back anytime.

We had a lovely time with Neo, Nala and the stick insects! Neo is just ADORABLE and he loves to play!! Nala is gorgeous and a sweetheart. If you're lucky she will sleep with you! The stick insects require little care but are super cool! Orange is a great place to visit especially if you like wine! ... MORE
Holly and Kiera were fantastic sitters! They looked after our kelpie and cat who both loved them. They were reliable with communication, the house was spotless when we returned and they should consider careers as pet photographers, they took such great photos of the animals! LEISA (Narrabundah ACT, Jul 2020 - 1 week) From Aussie House Sitters
How lucky were we when Holly and Kera answered our ad for people to care, feed and look after the birds and animals in our Wildlife Shelter. Their previous experience with a range of animals gave us the confidence to invite them to house sit. Holly and Kera quickly settled in, and with their kind and loving nature.they worked wonders with all the different varieties of kangaroo, wallaby, wombat and birds. With their natural love, affection and attention to detail they both gave wonderful ... MORE

We couldn't of picked a better pair of girls to house and dog sit! They loved our pups and house as if they were their own. They communicated and kept us updated with photos, they were lovely and kind and I felt at ease leaving the dogs in their care. The house was left the same way we left :) highly recommend Holly and Kera and we will definitely be using them again!

JESSICA (Kaiapoi South Island, Nov 2019 - 6 days) From Kiwi House Sitters
This is first time we have used a pet / house sitter and can highly recommend them. We have 2 dogs, 2 cats and fish. The animals were very well taken care of and we received great photos of the dogs out having fun while we were away. The house was left in same condition that you wouldn't know they had been here. Very happy we choose them and couldn't have found anyone more capable. They had a couple of nights with us before we went on holiday and we have offered for them to stay at our ... MORE

GRETCHEN (Parklands , Oct 2019 - 1 week 5 days) From Kiwi House Sitters
Holly and Keira were great housesitters and looked after Elsa so well. They came out early to get to know her and us and then stayed on an extra night as we were getting back late. They cooked for us the following evening before leaving for their next sit. Would have them back in a flash and recommend them to any future housesits.

NATALIE (Newlands North Island, Feb 2019 - 1 week 4 days) From Kiwi House Sitters
Kera and Holly looked after our home and more importantly our fur baby Frankie while we were away. They kept in touch regularly, sending us photos of Frankie having a great time on the beach and going on walks! This was our first experience leaving Frankie at home without us so we were super nervous but once we met Kera and Holly, we knew that Frankie was in very caring and capable hands! Thank you guys so much for all of your help!

DANNIELLE + SAMUEL (Otaki Beach North Island, Feb 2019 - 5 days) From Kiwi House Sitters

GRANT (Rotorua North Island, Feb 2019 - 5 days) From Kiwi House Sitters
Well didn't we hit the jackpot with these two great young ladies. As soon as they walked in they immediately engaged with our two dogs. Barely said hello to us. Just what we were looking for! It's not about us, it's about our animals. Kera and Holly are amazing. We felt really comfortable leaving our minagerie of animals with them. They kept us up to date with their comings and goings, and sent the odd photo. Perfect. Would recommend them in a heart beat.

TRACY (Maungakaramea North Island, Apr 2018 - 2 weeks) From Kiwi House Sitters
No rating I'm very late in writing feedback! All I can say is these girls were wonderful, they took great care of all our animals and the property. They kept in contact while we were away giving plenty of updates which made us feel like we had left our animals in great hands. I would happily have them stay again and would recommend them to anyone looking for a house sitter.
RACHEL (Korumburra VIC, Apr 2017 - 1 week 4 days) From Aussie House Sitters
No rating Holly and Kera cared for our 3 large dogs (including an energetic puppy) and our cat over Christmas/New Year. My elderly dog became quite sick and both girls cared for him, took him to the vet, medicated him and kept me informed the whole time. I could not rate them highly enough for their care and concern. Genuinely lovely girls.
SHARON (DOONSIDE NSW, Dec 2016 - 1 week 5 days) From Aussie House Sitters
No rating Holy and Kera are 2 delightful young ladies from Canada. They spent a couple extra days with us before we departed to get to know our locality and our dog Hope. Both girls were excellent with our timid rescue dog, and she warmed to them very quickly. Holy and Kera were very respectful of our home keeping it functioning in a neat and orderly manner. I would highly recommend these two young ladies for pet minding and house sitting and gladly have them return anytime.
