My husband and I have worked in international schools in various countries for the last 12 years and I have been involved in animal rescue for the last six. First in Vietnam, then in Senegal, and in 2022 we took a sabbatical from work, raised funds and volunteered at Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue shelter for three months.
These experiences have been both the most amazing, rewarding thing I've ever done and the most heartbreaking, but it has taught me a lot about animals, particularly cats and dogs. I've cared for sick animals, fostered cats, kittens, dogs and puppies, rehabilitated, socialised and done some training with street dogs, bottle fed orphaned kittens and administered meds to both dogs and cats as well as organising sterilisation campaigns and volunteer rotas. I've had my own and looked after other people's animals for years and absolutely love them all!
I'm reliable, sensible and capable, clean and tidy, and willing to do whatever needs doing with your animals/house/garden to make sure you are happy, relaxed and confident that all is well at home while you are away. I am happy to provide a list of people whose pets I've looked after, the rescue I volunteered at in Bulgaria and the organisations I volunteered with in Vietnam (Animal Rescue & Care Vietnam - ARC) and Senegal (Ligue pour la Protection des Animaux - LPA).
Just a note as to why I'm looking to do house/pet sitting now. We've been working at a school in Beirut, Lebanon since September last year but, due to the war in Gaza and having had to evacuate once already, I decided to return to the UK while the situation in the Middle East remains volatile. My husband is still there as he's braver than me! So I am in the UK for probably about 6 months. I have several online courses to do in that time and so am looking for pet sitting because I can't bear to be without animals! Initially I'm just looking until the end of March whilst I figure out what I'm going to do longer term.

We were lucky to find Mel. She made great friends with our shy cat, and looked after our chickens extremely well (with no prior experience). She left the house tidy and clean. She maintained excellent communication throughout and was proactive in thinking of things to check before we went away. I 100% recommend her and will invite her back when we next need a housesit.
Mel is an absolute gem and I would highly recommend her, especially to any pet owner. She looked after our elderly cat for 2 weeks and gave regular updates, photos and videos as often as I wanted them. She clearly adores animals and is also very professional about what she does. I also came back to a very clean and tidy house.
We were delighted when Mel contacted us, and we were able to set up a pre-met before she came to look after our little daxie Arthur. From the start Arthur loved her - and he settled so quickly once we had headed off for our holiday and left Mel to look after him.
