Veterinary Assistant
Hello, my friends call me Susie.
I have 'substituted' for friends very many times: gap years, honeymoons, timeshares, hospital stays as well as for the usual downtime we all cherish - this is my second year offering for friends I am yet to know.
Before Covid-19, I was a farm manager at a charity smallholding, caring for the animals that lived there (forever) and the plants & vegetables that I enjoyed growing. I count all animals as the best friends a person can have and this was my dream job, probably the best one I've ever had.
Nowadays, I get my animal fix by working afternoons at a local veterinary practice, helping the vet, advising, and meeting all the clients and their pets.
A keen horsewoman, I've ridden since I was five and I kept my first pony at the age of 8. It is a love that has endured ever since including a spell of eight years working with racehorses, an episode that yielded me my own thoroughbred, an also-ran that I saved from going to the auctions, and who I continue to love and treasure - that's him in the photo.
When I'm not working, I adore the outdoor life, walking (alone or with dogs), riding and sketching nature, and in the evening reading or doing the odd bit of tower bell ringing, wherever I happen to be.
Longer spells of leave I spend volunteering on conservation projects or having more quirky adventures such as relocating narrowboats.
I am a vegetarian, non-smoker, and have a current DBS certificate. I'm not keen on cooking so I won't be troubling your kitchen much, rest assured. A green traveler at heart, a location with some public transport links would be ideal but I do drive. As I will be taking annual or unpaid leave, shorter length stays are best (even long weekends) as I am hoping to get to know some of the places I would love to live when my time is completely my own.
I can see there are lots of lovely sitters out there and I know there is a place that's right for everyone. Looking forward to meeting you.
