***Awaiting confirmation of sit*** We live in a 3 bedroom link detached house in a quiet area of Riddings in Derbyshire. Our house comprises of 2 double bedrooms (one with a single mid sleeper bed) and one small single room, bathroom, downstairs toilet, living room, dining room and conservatory/bar. We have a small front garden and driveway for 2 cars and rear multilevel garden with patio furniture, bbq, greenhouse and shed. We have fibre broadband which is suitable for working from home, freeview, Netflix, Amazon Prime and an Xbox.
We are approx. 10 minutes from M1 Junction 26 / A610 / A38. In the local area we have several convenience stores, post office, 3 pubs, a bakery, hairdressers, barbers, takeaway, park with children’s play area and some lovely walks around Codnor Park Reservoir, Butterley Nature Reserve, Butterley Railway and beyond.
Ripley and Alfreton are both a short drive away, areas such as Matlock, Carsington Cromford, Crich, Derby, Chesterfield, Nottingham are all easily reachable by car as are the Chatsworth Estate, Heights of Abraham, Gullivers Kingdom, Crich Tramway Village and other tourist attractions in the Peak District. There are two local bus services which run hourly to Derby and Nottingham.
We have a 12 year old tabby cat who rules the house! Leo is a sociable cat who likes to be around people but affection is on his terms. We’ve found that as he’s getting older he struggles to be on his own for longer periods of time and whilst we’ve had some lovely family and friends pop in daily to feed him when we’ve been away, being on his own is becoming stressful for him. Leo can be quite fussy with his food, he eats well and is a large but healthy cat (5.8kg) but he will decide on a weekly basis that there’s a flavour of wet cat food he’s not a fan of, only to change his mind the following week. He loves a scratch on his head or under his chin but hates it anywhere else and can get overstimulated and aggressive if he feels harassed, he also doesn’t like being picked up. He likes his routine, breakfast 6am - 7am then will sleep until around 2pm waking for lunch, dinner is early evening and then some food left overnight. Leo has regular flea and worming treatments from the vets and is microchipped. He has a cat flap to the rear garden and will happily come and go as he pleases (occasionally bringing gifts back from the nearby field) but will paw at the living room window to be let out and leaves nose prints on the glass when he’s sat on the windowsill waiting to be let in. Where he sleeps varies, usually upstairs on the landing or a bed during the winter and in the conservatory during the summer. When he’s super happy and relaxed he will sit on your knee for a head scratch then stretch out on you for quite a while. He has a tower in the living room where he likes to sit for treats and likes to chase a treat ball and laser pen around the living room.
No garden care is required, any plants in the greenhouse have feeders set up whilst we’re away and house plants are watered before we leave.
We welcome all singles, couples and families groups of house sitters.
