We need a house sitter

North East - Tyne and Wear

Tamsin

Hi, we're Dom, Tamsin and our golden oldie kitty, Megan. We are looking for a loving cat lady to come and look after her while we are on holiday later this year. We live in a quiet area, in a small 2 bedroom bungalow on the outskirts of Newcastle in Chapel House. Our home is quirky, much like us and a lot of love and attention has gone into it to make it ours since we moved in last year. Megs is a house cat and is not to be let out, no matter what she tells you. In Summer we keep the windows on their latches for airflow, but never open. She is a rescue so we don't know what background she came from but sadly she's frightened of men (which is why we've asked for a lady sitter, I promise it's not you, it's definitely her) and loud voices so she will be nervous or hide if she hears the doorbell / postman/ workmen outside, she's very frightened of fireworks and will run and hide from these. She's a senior girly now, we think about 17, and will come to you when she's ready, she's weary of new people but when she realises there is a warm lap to be sat on she will take you up on the offer. Megs doesn't like her paws or tummy touched. Under the chin and collar scratches are the best and up her spine and tail if she lets you. Megs favourite toy is an old piece of string which has feathers tied to is that she loves for you to move about so she can chase it. She also loves tinfoil balls / sweet wrappers so you'll probably find several of those around the lounge which she likes to have you throw so she can chase. There is also a small stuffed cat and bird which she likes to play with at night which you can throw for her to catch (she might also sing to it, don't panic, those weird noises at night are just her chattering away). Megs doesn't need to be brushed, she likes to groom herself. Her litter tray is in the bathroom, next to the shower. Please scoop after she's had a poop and flush it and then do a full tray change every 3 or 4 days depending on how much she's used it, you can see if it's very damp then you can change it on day 3 instead of 4. I will have enough litter in the coat cupboard in the passage. We don't use litter tray liners (she gets her claws stuck it in) so don't worry about those.

House: With Megs being a house cat she has full run of it, the only place she's not allowed is in the kitchen at night so please close the door (she gets onto the top cupboards then can’t get down again). She will spend her days in the conservatory asleep on her cushion and blanket. She can get under your feet a lot especially when you're walking with food and cooking so please watch your step so you don't trip over her and tell her get out the kitchen when you're cooking if she tries to come in and help.
- We respectfully ask that if you do smoke, to please only do so outside as we aren't smokers and aren't used to the smoke in our home.
- Our storage is limited. I will have hangers on the door hooks for you for items you'd like to hang up
- If anything breaks please put it to one side so we can replace it when we return (these things happen!)

Activity and leisure equipment
There are board games in the chest in the conservatory under Megans cushion. The Play Station is in the lounge for you to use and if you prefer a PC let us know and we can set up a guest account for you to use on that. We have really good Internet connection, we both work from home and have found it very stable and reliable if you are a remote worker.

Garden: We have a beautiful private garden that by the time Autumn comes around won't need any care, you are of course welcome to spend time in it enjoying the birds, we also have a small fire pit if that's something you might enjoy. When you go into the garden, please use the kitchen door so you can close the door into the passage to create an “air lock”. Megs is curious and when you leave and come back to the house she will run to the door, just chase her back. If the weather has been really dry, please water the grass but with the rain we've been having I doubt this will be necessary. The bus stop to travel into Newcastle City Centre is on Hillhead Parkway in front of Coffee on the Corner (which you should absolutely try for their cakes!). All the buses will take you to Newcastle City Centre, but different parts, the 72 takes you closest to the Train Station, and the 40 takes you to Monument.
